The real review

This is a warm, visually stunning coming-of-age story, but it’s Hayley Kiyoko’s direction that gets the most love, with a lot of people saying she brings a heartfelt authenticity to Coley and Sonya's tentative romance. That said, the central story of grief and first love connects for many, even if some find the pacing a real slog. While the leads get praise for their performances, the standout reaction is for the film's look—people are absolutely raving about the visuals.
