The film
A nightclub owner is on the verge of leaving his dangerous past behind for retirement with his girlfriend. When masked gunmen rob him and he finds himself squeezed by ruthless cartels, a mysterious newcomer arrives with an interest in buying the business. With danger closing in from all sides, he must navigate a deadly web of deception, power, and survival - where escape may no longer be an option.
The Get Out is a split decision, where people really like the cast but feel like they've seen it all before. Russell Crowe carries the film as Manco Kapak, a club owner trying to retire, and the acting overall is widely praised. The problem is the story, a familiar tale of cartels and masked gunmen squeezing him, which many found derivative and predictable. A few even singled out Nina Dobrev's performance as a low point. What does get universal, if sparse, praise is the film's humor and slick visuals, but that's not enough to overcome a thin and unoriginal plot for most.
