The Real Review

This origin story of a young Anthony Bourdain, played by Dominic Sessa, is a split decision. While Sessa's performance as Tony and Antonio Banderas's magnetic turn as the chef are widely praised, the thin story and shaky grasp on Bourdain's real-life persona turn many off. The plot, about a chaotic summer in a Provincetown kitchen, feels predictable to a lot of people, even if the restaurant scenes look great. It's a decent character piece that struggles to feel authentic or necessary.
