007 First Light Hits 4 Million Sales, Sequel Buzz Grows
James Bond is back on top in the gaming world. Developer IO Interactive announced that its spy thriller, 007 First Light, has reached a major milestone, moving four million units since its launch three months ago, according to IGN.
The strong sales come during a period of flux for the Bond gaming license under Amazon's ownership. Despite this, the title itself has been a critical darling, praised for bringing the secret agent fantasy to life. IO has confirmed a Nintendo Switch 2 version is still in development.
The studio also outlined a roadmap of post-launch content. Per IGN, planned updates include a New Game+ mode, a fresh mission featuring Lenny Kravitz's pirate character Bawma, and additional tactical challenges and cosmetics.
What happens next is the big question. Eurogamer notes that while a sequel seems more likely given this success, any future Bond game would involve new rights holder Amazon Games, which has indicated it would want a greater role than IO had with this self-published entry.
The game's performance is a bright spot for IO Interactive, which recently faced layoffs after Microsoft ended a publishing deal for a separate fantasy RPG project, as reported by multiple outlets. For now, 007's mission is accomplished.
