Ace Combat 8 Hits 1 Million Sales Faster Than Any Previous Entry

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve has officially become the fastest-selling game in the series' history, according to publisher Bandai Namco. Per reports from VGC and Eurogamer, the aerial combat title surpassed one million copies sold in just over a week since its October 2nd launch.
The publisher made the announcement via a social media post, thanking "ace pilots around the world" for the support and vowing to release updates to keep players engaged. A commemorative wallpaper featuring the character Tasha has been made available on the official Ace Combat website to mark the milestone.
Push Square notes this early momentum is encouraging for the franchise. The previous series best-seller, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, has sold 7.5 million units since 2019, but reportedly took well over a year to reach its first two million. The speed of AC8's initial sales suggests it could be on track to surpass its predecessor.
Bandai Namco brand director Kazutoki Kono, speaking to VGC earlier this year, attributed the series' enduring appeal to its "accumulated capital" over three decades, including its storytelling and the breadth of aircraft available. He positioned Ace Combat as a "hero-making experience" distinct from other flight shooters.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
