Activision Reportedly Mulls Halo Reboot And Origin Story

Activision is reportedly considering a total reboot for the Halo franchise, according to a new report from insider Rebs Gaming cited by Eurogamer and Polygon. The plan would offer a fresh start, moving away from the complex storylines built up over 25 years.
The report claims the publisher has explored the idea of a game focused on Master Chief's origin story, potentially showing the character's early life as a child soldier. Per Rebs Gaming, this is just one concept being looked at, and no project has been officially greenlit yet.
Rebs Gaming also stated that Activision initially considered developing two distinct titles: one free-to-play multiplayer experience and another solely for campaign. The publisher later shifted to combining both into a single package, more in line with traditional Halo releases.
Prototype work for these concepts has allegedly been done by teams at Sledgehammer Games within the Infinity Ward Engine, the tech behind Call of Duty. This suggests a move away from the Slipspace and Unreal Engine 5 tech used in recent Halo titles.
Eurogamer notes that everything is in early development and subject to change. The only confirmed fact is that Activision is developing the next Halo game.
