Adult Swim's 'Get Jiro' sets October premiere date with bloody new trailer
The animated series adaptation of Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose's graphic novels, 'Get Jiro,' will premiere October 3 on Adult Swim. The Hollywood Reporter exclusively revealed the date and a violent first trailer, where the title character expresses his disdain for soy sauce.
The show is part of the Toonami anime block and will air at midnight on October 3, before streaming the next day on Max. It is produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios and set in a near-future Los Angeles where diners commit murder to get a table at hot restaurants. The story follows a mysterious, revenge-driven sushi chef named Jiro.
Brian Tee from 'Chicago Med' voices the lead role. The voice cast also includes Titus Welliver, Alison Pill, and Justin Kirk. The series was developed by writers Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka, who are executive producing alongside Jordan Blum and Sam Register.
Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen said, per THR, that the network was 'all in' on the project. He called it a 'wildly original, cinematic series' that starts with food and expands to cover culture and obsession.
The series is based on the best-selling DC/Vertigo graphic novels first published in 2012. This news follows the recent A24 film 'Tony,' which explores Bourdain's early life.
