Age of Empires studio loses nearly half its staff in Xbox cuts
The Age of Empires studio World's Edge was hit hard by recent Xbox layoffs, reportedly losing close to half its team.
According to a report by Eurogamer, former creative director Adam Isgreen revealed the scale of the cuts in a forum post. Isgreen, who confirmed he was among those let go, stated "just under half the studio was let go" as part of the restructuring.
Rock Paper Shotgun reports that the staff reductions occurred as World's Edge was moved from Xbox's direct control to being overseen by Activision. The outlet also notes that a senior software engineer claimed a new game project at the studio was cancelled because of this shift in management.
In a LinkedIn post, Isgreen expressed disappointment, saying, "We had some great plans for what's next." He added that he hoped the remaining team could still deliver on future plans for the franchise.
The layoffs at World's Edge were part of a broader set of cuts and studio reorganizations announced by Xbox this week.
