Alfonso Cuarón's horror series Ascension greenlit by Apple TV

A new horror thriller series from Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuarón is officially a go at Apple TV. Per Variety, the streamer has ordered "Ascension," which is inspired by the Adam Nevill novel "Last Days."

The show will star Caitríona Balfe in the lead role, marking her first major TV project since leaving the long-running drama "Outlander," as reported by TVLine. The series has been in development for years, with earlier reports having a different actor attached.

This is Cuarón's first major foray into television since directing episodes of "Believe" in 2014.
