Analyst Estimates Show Ghost of Yotei Sales Trail Tsushima But Still Hit Big Numbers

According to analyst estimates reported by IGN, sales for Ghost of Yotei are strong but haven't yet matched the pace of its predecessor. Analysis from Alinea Analytics, per the outlet, puts the PS5 exclusive's sales at roughly 5.4 million units, generating about $407 million in revenue.

By the same point in its lifecycle, Ghost of Tsushima had sold nearly 7 million copies for revenue of $418 million, the analyst noted. IGN reports that the newer game's higher $70 base price and fewer discounts mean it's pulling in more revenue per player, though it's moving fewer total units.

The analyst, Rhys Elliott, pointed out to IGN that Tsushima launched on a massive installed base of PS4s, while Yotei is exclusive to the PS5 install base of about 100 million. Elliott added that Yotei's revenue growth is starting to flatten compared to Tsushima's trajectory, but a potential influx of new PS5s driven by other titles could help.

Despite the unit gap, the analyst was firm in dismissing any notion of failure. "Anyone who says that Ghost of Yotei is a flop is flat-out wrong," Elliott stated, according to IGN's reporting. The data also showed that about 500,000 copies were sold in the last reported quarter, and a new digital Complete Edition moved 50,000 units in two weeks.
