Andrew Garfield Thriller Artificial Called Perfect Social Network Successor

A new corporate thriller starring Andrew Garfield is being hailed as a spiritual successor to The Social Network. Per MovieWeb, Artificial premiered at the New York Film Festival and features Garfield as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

The satirical drama chronicles the rise of generative AI and the internal clashes at the company, including the 2023 boardroom coup. The ensemble cast includes Yura Borisov as Ilya Sutskever, Monica Barbaro as Mira Murati, Cooper Hoffman as Greg Brockman, and Ike Barinholtz as Elon Musk.

Director Luca Guadagnino focuses the story on the human element, framing the existential threat of AI as a product of flawed human morality. Variety reportedly wrote that the film shows a digital 'aha' moment taking on a life of its own, while The Hollywood Reporter called it a provocative feature targeted for the current moment.

The film is described as a sensual and terrifying audit of the present and future. It reportedly draws direct parallels to The Social Network, exploring the moral dilemmas of people who invent world-changing technology.

Artificial is set for a theatrical release on December 25, 2026. The cast also includes Jason Schwartzman in an uncredited role.
