Andrew Scott Stars as AIDS-Stricken Actor Ian Charleson in 'Elsinore' Trailer
A new trailer has arrived for the upcoming drama 'Elsinore,' starring Andrew Scott as actor Ian Charleson, per Variety. The film, directed by Simon Stone from a script by Stephen Beresford, will hit theaters on November 20.
According to Collider, the film focuses on the final months of Charleson's life in the late 1980s after he was diagnosed with AIDS. Despite severe illness, he took on the title role in a production of 'Hamlet' at London's National Theatre in 1989.
His performance was critically acclaimed and became his final stage role before he died from complications of the disease just months later. Charleson notably insisted his cause of death be made public, a decision that helped raise awareness about AIDS at the time.
The film also features Olivia Colman as Margaret Johnson, one of the UK's first doctors specializing in AIDS, and Billie Piper as his friend and casting director Patsy Pollock. The story follows Charleson as he battles his illness to deliver one last landmark performance.
'Elsinore' is set for release on November 20 from Focus Features.
