Anne Hathaway admits she tried hard to lure Julie Andrews back for Princess Diaries 3
Anne Hathaway got honest about her efforts to bring Julie Andrews back to Genovia. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Hathaway told Entertainment Tonight that she "did push really hard" to have Andrews reprise her role as Queen Clarisse Renaldi for the third Princess Diaries film.
This push came after Andrews herself told THR she doesn't "think I should be a part of" the sequel. The legendary actor cited being "past all that now," preferring her current work on books and voice recordings.
Hathaway responded with reverence. "If she has a change of heart, we're down," she said, but added, "Whatever she wants, we completely understand."
The Oscar winner also shared her hopes for the new movie, directed by Adele Lim. Hathaway wants longtime fans, many now parents, to share the experience with their own kids. She emphasized the team is taking time to "build it right" and do justice to the original.
The project will continue the story of Mia Thermopolis, now Queen of Genovia, though plot specifics remain under wraps. A script from Flora Greeson is in place after an earlier draft was scrapped.
