Anthony Mackie learned he'd be Captain America from Chris Evans' script
Anthony Mackie says a close friendship gave him an early peek at his Marvel future. Per Variety, Mackie revealed Chris Evans shared the 'Avengers: Endgame' script with him privately before the actor officially got the pages.
Mackie told Cigar Aficionado they were at Evans' house when Evans, who received scripts first, asked if he'd seen the new scene. Evans then handed over the script for Mackie to read.
According to Mackie, it was an emotional way to learn he would be taking on the Captain America mantle from his friend. He said not many actors would share such a pivotal career moment so generously, especially since he was effectively stepping into Evans' role.
Mackie's character, Sam Wilson, officially received Captain America's shield at the end of 'Avengers: Endgame.' He later starred in the 2025 film 'Captain America: Brave New World.'
