Apu Speaks Again on The Simpsons with a New Voice Actor

After years of silence, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon has finally returned to speaking lines on The Simpsons. The character was heard in the October 18 episode, "The Revengening," according to Variety.

TVLine confirms the new voice behind the Kwik-E-Mart owner is Sunil Malhotra. Malhotra, known for roles on Grey's Anatomy and in animation, takes over from Hank Azaria.

Azaria, who is white, stepped away from the role in 2020 following criticism about the casting. Executive producer Matt Selman told Variety the show loves the character and wants to bring him back in an evolved way, with Malhotra already bringing new energy to the part.

The episode also introduced Janina Gavankar as the new voice of Apu's wife, Manjula. Selman indicated that with Malhotra cast, viewers can expect to see and hear more of Apu in future episodes.
