Arc Raiders' Frozen Trail update overhauls skills, battle pass, and adds player homes

Arc Raiders' Frozen Trail update overhauls skills, battle pass, and adds player homes

Arc Raiders is getting a massive shake-up with its upcoming Frozen Trail update on October 8. According to PC Gamer, the 2.0 patch is a comprehensive rework touching nearly every part of the extraction shooter.

The free update introduces a new frozen map, new ARC enemy types, weapon upgrades, and a major new feature: personal outposts that players can decorate. A new grapple hook tool, shown in a reveal video, will let players swing around and even hitch rides on ARC bots.

GameSpot reports a significant change to the game's progression system. The update will introduce a new battle pass that, unlike the previous free Raider Decks, won't be totally free. However, the outlet notes the pass is designed to pay for itself through player completion.

PC Gamer also details a complete skill tree overhaul. The developers are swapping out old abilities for new ones, forcing players to make specific build choices rather than unlocking everything. In a press Q&A, executive producer Robin Grøndal said, "We believe that creates more interesting choices and supports more playstyles," per the outlet. The exact new skills were not revealed.

The update marks a shift to a slower, six-month major update schedule, which Embark Studios hopes will allow for larger, more substantial content drops like Frozen Trail.
