Avatar Universe Expands with Seven Havens Renewal and Kuruk Spinoff

Paramount+'s animated Avatar universe is getting a lot bigger, fast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the streamer renewed the new series Avatar: Seven Havens for two more seasons at New York Comic Con. They also announced a brand new spinoff series, Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos.

Per THR, Wave of Chaos will be the franchise's first action comedy. It will follow a 14-year-old version of the Avatar Kuruk, a character originally from Avatar: The Last Airbender, during a time of peace. TVLine reports the show's description: a rebellious teen Avatar learns the elements through globetrotting adventures while dodging his teacher, pirates, and spirits.

The Hollywood Reporter notes the announcements came alongside other projects. An Avatar: Seven Havens podcast is coming, and the Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will get a Seven Havens expansion with new character colors and a stage. A new Legend of Korra book titled The Long Game is also in the works.

During the NYCC panel, producers discussed the direction of Seven Havens. Per THR, they aimed for a '70s anime style and a more serialized story. Producer Sehaj Sethi said, per the outlet, that the team wanted to evolve the universe, not just repeat past successes, and create a story with gray areas where audiences could argue different sides.

Co-creator Bryan Konietzko, who will serve as showrunner on the Kuruk series, spoke about the future. He indicated, as reported by THR, that the team was looking forward to exploring new possibilities for the Avatar world and introducing a fresh version of it.
