Avengers: Endgame Encore returns with $3.8M previews in crowded box office weekend
A rerelease of the 2019 Marvel blockbuster is back in theaters for a busy weekend. According to The Hollywood Reporter, 'Avengers: Endgame: Encore' pulled in $3.8 million from Thursday previews. Disney is projecting a domestic opening of around $25 million for the return engagement.
This new cut includes an exclusive look at footage from the upcoming 'Avengers: Doomsday', scheduled for release on December 18. The rerelease is playing on 3,060 screens across North America.
It faces competition from several major new releases. A24's 'Primetime', starring Robert Pattinson as a journalist, earned $2.7 million in previews and is tracking for a $12-16 million opening. Paramount's 'Heart of the Beast', featuring Brad Pitt as a stranded soldier, took in $2 million with a projected $17-20 million weekend.
Meanwhile, Universal's animated 'Forgotten Island' collected $1.48 million from previews and advance screenings, with the studio expecting a mid-teens debut. All figures and projections are per The Hollywood Reporter.
These newcomers will also battle last week's champion, Sony's 'Resident Evil' adaptation, which set a franchise record with its $60.1 million opening.
