Badlands picks up 'John Wick meets Bigfoot' horror script Wildman
A new revenge thriller where the protagonist is a Sasquatch is heading to the screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the genre label Badlands has acquired the spec script Wildman by writer Jacob Rainer.
The logline, as reported by MovieWeb, sets the scene: when his brother is murdered by a gang, a reclusive being named Joel leaves his mountain home on a bloody quest for vengeance. The final hook reveals that Joel is Bigfoot. JoBlo's report offers a similar synopsis, noting the story begins when Bigfoot's little brother is killed by hunters.
The script first gained attention after being highlighted in a competition on the Scriptshadow website, per both MovieWeb and JoBlo. MovieWeb adds that site owner Carson Reeves, who is also set to executive produce the film, was a key early champion of the material.
Badlands is a genre arm of Thunder Road, the production company behind the John Wick series. The label's first feature, the spider-invasion horror film Crawlers, is scheduled for release on October 16.
