BBC throws splashy 'Blue Planet III' premiere in London with new trailer
The BBC has dropped the first trailer for its new natural history series, Blue Planet III, at a flashy premiere event in London. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the series will again be narrated by Sir David Attenborough and features an original song from composer Hans Zimmer and former Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall.
A special event was held at Piccadilly Circus, where the famous advertising screens were taken over by footage from the show, including a leaping whale. Attendees walked a blue carpet for the so-called "global premiere," which was hosted by BBC Radio 1's Greg James.
In a recorded message, Attenborough marveled at returning for a third installment in the year he turned 100. "The ocean is an endlessly fascinating place," he said. "In these new programs, we uncover a further wonderful array of underwater life, which is more surprising, more sophisticated and even more important than we ever realized."
Composer Hans Zimmer called his involvement "the most important work I've ever done." He praised the BBC's Natural History Unit for work that "changes the world by making you fall in love with it."
The new series consists of six episodes, each an hour long, slated for BBC One, the BBC iPlayer, and BBC America later this year. The network's Natural History Unit reportedly spent over four years producing the follow-up.
