Bethesda boss reassures staff after Obsidian joins the company
Bethesda president Jill Braff has told employees that Obsidian Entertainment will keep its own identity after being moved under the Bethesda umbrella. This shift is part of a major Xbox restructuring that also saw 268 more job cuts, per IGN.
In a memo obtained by IGN and reported by Eurogamer, Braff stated the move is mainly a change in reporting structure. She confirmed Obsidian's leadership, including CEO Feargus Urquhart, will remain in place and the studio will report directly to her.
Braff also clarified that Bethesda Game Studios will continue to be the primary lead for the Fallout franchise. However, she noted that the two studios will collaborate on an already-in-the-works new Fallout project, with more details promised later.
The reorganization comes as part of a broader Xbox strategy to focus on its biggest franchises. Other changes, according to multiple outlets, include handing development of the next mainline Halo game to Activision and moving studios like Rare and World's Edge under Activision's control.
