Big Brother Celebrates 1000th Episode With Ratings Boost
The CBS reality stalwart 'Big Brother' will air its 1,000th episode on Thursday, making TV history as the first primetime entertainment series in the U.S. to hit that mark. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show is reaching this milestone during its 28th season, having far outpaced other long-runners like 'The Simpsons' and 'Survivor' in total episode count.
The show's numbers are also on the rise. Per the outlet, viewing figures for the season show an average audience of 5.21 million people when counting a week of multi-platform data, which is a 10% increase compared to last year. Growth has also been strong among key advertiser demographics.
Its companion series, 'Big Brother Unlocked,' is also seeing more viewers, with a reported 21% year-over-year jump. The main show's current performance puts it in the summer's top 10 and ahead of competitor 'Love Island USA' on Peacock.
In total watch time, the series is projected to surpass 15 billion minutes for this season, a significant leap from last year's total. CBS also notes increased audience crossover between 'Big Brother' and 'Survivor,' with millions of viewers from the latter franchise tuning in this season.
