Black Mirror season 8 officially in production, Netflix renews other UK shows
Netflix is officially moving forward with an eighth season of its dystopian anthology series Black Mirror. Variety reports that filming began this summer, though the streamer has not yet set a launch date for the new season.
Series creator Charlie Brooker is returning to write and executive produce the new episodes alongside Bisha K. Ali, per the report. Brooker previously told Netflix's Tudum that the show "will return, and hopefully it'll be more 'Black Mirror' than ever." Jessica Rhoades, Annabel Jones, Louise Sutton, and Mark Kinsella are also listed as producers.
The news came as part of a slate of UK renewals confirmed by Netflix. The streamer has ordered a second season of the Neil Forsyth drama "Legends," about undercover customs officers. Forsyth said he's "delighted" to continue the story into the late 1990s. Production on that six-episode season is slated to begin next year.
Netflix also confirmed a second season for the reality series "Being Gordon Ramsay," which follows the chef and his family. Production is already underway, with the show set to return next year.
According to Variety, other returning UK dramas include second seasons of "Supacell," which has wrapped and is eyeing a 2027 release, "House of Guinness," set to begin filming in January, and "Black Doves," which will debut later this year. Unscripted renewals include new seasons of "Formula 1: Drive to Survive," "Love is Blind UK," "At Home with the Furys," and "The Rest is Football."
