Black Myth Zhong Kui unleashes 15-minute gameplay trailer showcasing new hero

The long wait for a look at Game Science's next action RPG is over. Per GosuGamers, the studio has dropped a 15-minute gameplay trailer for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, offering the first substantial peek at combat, exploration, and boss fights.

The footage, captured from a work-in-progress build, follows a young swordsman travelling with an elder. After triggering a rock explosion and escaping via raft, he fights grey armored foes before his companion appears to dissolve into a flurry of spectral insects. The protagonist pursues the swarm into a body of water, leading to a battle with a winged, clam-like creature.

Notably, control during that boss fight seems to shift to a hooded figure with a straight jian sword before returning to the main hero. The trailer also teases other activities: the hero playing traditional music, a spirit-catching mini-game, and odd creatures like walking mushrooms and a small spirit bathing in a pot. It concludes with a figure riding a large tiger-like beast.

Combat diverges from Black Myth: Wukong's staff-wielding acrobatics. The new protagonist uses a sword for heavier strikes, martial arts, dodges, and counters, and can enchant his blade with fire and employ paper talismans. The temporary character switch hints at multiple playable heroes, though this is unconfirmed.

The game, which was first revealed a year ago, still has no release date. It is confirmed for PC and unannounced consoles.
