Blade Runner 2099 Trailer Shows a Replicant-Ruled Future

Prime Video dropped a new look at Blade Runner 2099 during a New York Comic Con panel, per The Hollywood Reporter. The footage previews a world where replicants have won and humans are not in charge.
Showrunner Silka Luisa laid out the premise, telling the crowd the story picks up 50 years after Blade Runner 2049. Humans have lost a major uprising, and the series explores what happens as their time as the dominant species fades. She described it as a detective story set at a turning point for both life forms.
Michelle Yeoh plays Olwen, a replicant Blade Runner who is dying. A visual clue, blue-toned nail beds inspired by Roy Batty in the original film, shows her declining health. Yeoh teased her character is racing against time to finish her work.
Hunter Schafer's human character is a fugitive, according to the actress. After her workspace is raided, she goes on the run to protect her brother and ends up going undercover within the LAPD's Blade Runner unit.
Executive producers noted the series will dig into identity, with humans searching for purpose in a subjugated world and replicants grappling with their new power. Luisa said the show's aesthetic aims to be a distinct third look, building on but differing from the two prior films.
