Brandon Sanderson Submits Mistborn Movie Script to Apple
The Mistborn movie adaptation is one step closer to reality. Author Brandon Sanderson has officially handed in his screenplay for the project, according to an exclusive interview with Collider.
Sanderson told the outlet he is personally writing the entire script, having just turned in his first draft to Apple TV. He clarified it was more like his 18th version, having done extensive revisions. The studio has now provided its feedback, and Sanderson's next job is to navigate those requested changes.
The biggest challenge, per Sanderson, is condensing the massive novel. He's taking roughly 200,000 words down to a screenplay of about 20,000. He described the book as a mix of heist, "My Fair Lady," and epic fantasy, and the task was distilling those elements for the film.
He believes adapting his own work has an advantage, as he knows "the soul of the story" and what can be cut. For now, the project remains in the writing phase. Apple has not announced any casting, production start, or release date.
