Brendan Fraser's 'The Mummy' Sequel Gets Official Title and 2027 Date

Universal Pictures has finally pulled back the bandages on its long-awaited Brendan Fraser-led sequel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is officially titled *The Mummy: Book of the Dead* and will hit theaters on October 15, 2027.

The directing duties for this new chapter have been handed off to Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the filmmaking team behind the recent 'Scream' revival. David Coggeshall wrote the script.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter and Polygon, the core cast from the original 1999 film is reuniting. Fraser is back as adventurer Rick O'Connell, with Rachel Weisz returning as archaeologist Evie. John Hannah will also reprise his role as her brother, Jonathan Carnahan.

The title has sparked speculation, as reported by Polygon. The 'Book of the Dead' was the artifact used to resurrect the mummy Imhotep in the first two films. With returning cast members like Oded Fehr (Ardeth Bay) and Kevin J. O'Connor (Beni) also confirmed, fans are guessing the classic villain might be back for another round.
