Bruce Campbell says he is officially done playing Ash in the Evil Dead franchise
Bruce Campbell has confirmed he has no plans to return as Ash Williams in the Evil Dead franchise, according to TheWrap.
In a post on X, the actor stated his reasons were a mix of ability and interest. He said he didn't want the character to be compromised by his "declining skills" and noted that as a "borderline Geezer," his interests have diverged.
Campbell has led the franchise since the original 1981 film, playing the chainsaw-wielding hero through two sequels and the three-season Starz series "Ash vs. Evil Dead," which ended in 2018.
He has remained involved as an executive producer on recent films like "Evil Dead Rise" and the upcoming "Evil Dead Burn." The franchise continues with "Evil Dead Wrath," scheduled for 2028.
Campbell also recently disclosed he is being treated for an incurable but treatable form of cancer, telling fans he expects to "be around awhile."
