Capcom already has a plan for when its Resident Evil remakes run out

Capcom is already planning for the day its remake train catches up to its modern Resident Evil games.

In comments published in a 30th anniversary magazine book, veteran producer Jun Takeuchi outlined the two-track strategy for the series. According to IGN, he said the company is "gradually preparing" for a future crossover between the remake storyline and the newer games.

Takeuchi pointed to the inclusion of names like Umbrella and Spencer, and the return of Raccoon City in the recent "Requiem" project, as seeds being planted for that eventual convergence. He noted that fan reaction to these elements was stronger than expected, prompting the developers to lean into the setup.

The producer also identified Resident Evil 7 as a "turning point" for the series, as its development coincided with the formal planning of the remake initiative. The publisher has already successfully remade Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4, with a Code Veronica remake expected next year and rumors of Resident Evil 0 and 1 remakes on the horizon.

This would eventually leave only Resident Evil 5 and 6 from the mainline series without modern remakes. Any potential remake of Resident Evil 5 would likely revisit controversies surrounding its setting and characters, per IGN's reporting.
