CD Projekt Red says The Witcher 4 already runs on PC, PS5, and Xbox

CD Projekt Red says The Witcher 4 already runs on PC, PS5, and Xbox

CD Projekt Red is playing it safe after the Cyberpunk 2077 fiasco, and now says its next big game is already up and running on every platform it's targeting.

Speaking to Game Developer, studio co-CEO Michal Nowakowski laid out the new approach. "You come to the studio, you launch Witcher 4 right now," he said, per Eurogamer. "You can launch it on PC. You can launch it on PS5. You can launch it on Xbox Series X, and it's going to run."

The company is avoiding a repeat of the Cyberpunk launch, which was plagued by performance issues, especially on older consoles. Nowakowski admitted the studio had a "false belief" that scaling down a PC-focused vision for consoles wouldn't be a major challenge, a lesson learned the hard way.

PC Gamer reports the developer is also changing how it tracks progress. If a milestone is missed on a specific platform, the team now stops to fix it immediately instead of assuming it can be addressed later.

The project is aiming for a launch sometime in 2028, though that date could change. The game is in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
