Civilization 7's Atomic Age and Space Race Finally Arriving in 2027
Civilization 7 is getting its biggest injection of content yet. Per PC Gamer, developer Firaxis announced a free update and a major expansion, both slated for a 2027 release.
The free update, titled Arc of Tomorrow, will extend the game's timeline beyond its current 1950 endpoint. It adds a fourth Act that stretches the campaign to the year 2050. According to the report, this update will bring "expanded nuclear gameplay" with new units and a new take on mutually assured destruction. Players will also get atomic-era diplomacy options, the ability to turn settlements into City States for proxy wars, and a system for manufacturing advanced resources like enriched uranium.
Firaxis claims Arc of Tomorrow will be "even bigger in scope" than last year's Test of Time update. It is expected to launch alongside the game's first major expansion, called Earthrise.
The Earthrise expansion will focus on space exploration throughout history, not just as an endgame. Players will be able to chart stars in ancient times, launch orbital missions in the modern era, and eventually form a space agency to explore the solar system.
The developer noted that all the announced details are still being worked on and could be altered before release. For now, PC Gamer notes that the base game of Civilization 7 is free to play until September 10.
