Clayface Box Office Crown Challenged by A24 Documentary

A surprise box office battle is brewing, according to Variety. The new DC horror movie 'Clayface' is facing a stronger-than-expected challenge from A24's documentary 'You Can See Everything.'

Just last week, 'Clayface' was projected to open with $25-$35 million from 3,400 theaters. Now, per the report, Warner Bros.'s R-rated comic book film might not even open at number one. The Elizabeth Holmes documentary 'You Can See Everything,' directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, is eyeing a huge second weekend of $20-$25 million from 2,600 venues after a record-breaking debut.

'Clayface' is still expected to perform well, targeting a global opening of $45-$55 million, including $20-$25 million from overseas markets. The film, which follows a disfigured actor who becomes the Batman villain, cost a reported $44 million to make.

Other new releases are aiming for much smaller starts. Laika's animated 'Wildwood' is tracking for a $6-$8 million debut, while the Jenna Ortega-led 'Klara and the Sun' is expected to open to just $2 million. Sacha Baron Cohen's 'Ali G: Who Iz I?' is having a very limited two-day theatrical run before heading to Prime Video.
