Cregger's Resident Evil Beats All Six Jovovich Films at US Box Office

According to ScreenRant, Zach Cregger's new Resident Evil film has set a new domestic box office record for the franchise. The reboot has earned $126 million in the U.S. so far, surpassing the entire run of Milla Jovovich's six-film series.
The previous highest-grossing entry was 2010's Resident Evil: Afterlife, which made $60 million domestically. The Jovovich-led films, while collectively earning over $1.2 billion worldwide, were never huge hits in America but performed strongly overseas.
Cregger's film, which reportedly sought to emulate the tense experience of playing a survival horror game rather than directly adapting a specific title, has grossed nearly $250 million globally. Its domestic total is more than double that of any previous Resident Evil movie.
The last attempt at a reboot, 2021's Welcome to Raccoon City, earned only about $17 million in the U.S. ScreenRant notes the new film's success came alongside strong reviews, though a sequel's director remains uncertain as Cregger is set to move on to another project.
