Cyberpunk 2077 Film Won't Be a Direct Adaptation of the Game

The upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 movie is taking a path that’s sure to spark debate. According to a report from /Film, the film will not be a straight retelling of the game's narrative.

The news comes from an interview one of CD Projekt Red's top executives gave to a Polish publication. The studio's co-CEO, Michał Nowakowski, stated the project will not adapt the game directly, per the outlet. He said the goal is to tell a new story within the world of Cyberpunk.

This means fans hoping for a live-action version of protagonist V's journey, complete with Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand, might be out of luck. The film will instead explore original tales set in Night City.

Nowakowski's comments suggest the creative team behind the movie, which includes Paramount, will craft a fresh narrative. The approach is seen by some as a logical move for a game built heavily on player choice and multiple endings.
