Cyberpunk 2077 Gets Surprise Update Tied to Edgerunners 2 Anime

CD Projekt Red has announced a surprise free update for Cyberpunk 2077, arriving this week in tandem with the new season of its anime spin-off, IGN and Eurogamer report.
The update, dubbed version 2.5 or the Edgerunners 2 Update, is scheduled to launch on October 22, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. According to the developer, a release for the Nintendo Switch 2 will "follow shortly."
Per IGN, CD Projekt teased that the patch will include "new items and features," including content directly inspired by the new season of Netflix's "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners." In a social media post, the studio promised "New Edgerunners, new chrome, new playstyle," specifically citing a new dual-wielding playstyle and cyberware customization.
The developer will reveal full details in a dedicated REDstreams livestream on October 21, 2026, with patch notes to follow. Eurogamer notes this renewed activity could give a fresh boost to the game, which reportedly passed 40 million copies sold earlier this year.
This update comes as a surprise to fans, as CD Projekt had previously stated in May it had "no plans" for further DLC or expansions for the nearly six-year-old game, as noted by IGN. The studio's focus has shifted to the sequel, codenamed Orion, which is not expected until at least 2030.
