Cyberpunk 2077 movie officially in development at Paramount

A live-action film adaptation of the video game Cyberpunk 2077 is officially moving forward at Paramount, Variety has confirmed. The project is currently in its early stages of development.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the producer behind the Transformers film series, is set to produce the movie, per multiple reports. CD Projekt Red, the Polish studio that created the game and owns the franchise rights, will also serve as a producer on the project.
Details on the film's plot, creative team, or casting are currently being kept under wraps. The game's story is set in the dystopian metropolis of Night City and follows a mercenary named V. The character becomes entangled with a digital ghost of a rock star criminal named Johnny Silverhand, who was portrayed by Keanu Reeves in the game.
According to Collider, it's unclear if the movie will directly adapt the game's narrative or, like the Fallout TV series, tell a new story within the same universe. Casting speculation, including whether Reeves might return, is premature at this point.
TheWrap notes that the original Cyberpunk 2077 game has sold over 40 million copies globally, with its Phantom Liberty expansion adding another 15 million sales. Paramount's move follows a broader Hollywood trend of mining popular video game franchises for film and TV projects.
