Dan Stevens cast as the new RoboCop for Prime Video series

Dan Stevens is suiting up as the cyborg lawman. According to reports from Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, Stevens will star as Alex Murphy, the officer rebuilt into RoboCop, for an eight-episode series on Prime Video.

The show, from writer and showrunner Peter Ocko and producers Blumhouse Atomic Monster, was greenlit by Amazon MGM Studios last month. Per the official description, the plot involves a massive tech company that gets a robot installed on the Detroit police force, with the mind of the deceased cop Murphy placed inside it.

James Wan, an executive producer, said the series aims to honor the original while tackling modern themes. He told The Hollywood Reporter the show will explore issues of "technology, identity, and who corporations really serve."

The original 1987 film, directed by Paul Verhoeven, followed Murphy's brutal death and resurrection as a corporate-owned cybernetic policeman. Co-writers of that movie, Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, are also executive producers on the new series.

This marks the latest attempt to revive the franchise, following a 2014 film reboot and various TV projects in the decades since the classic first hit theaters.
