Denis Villeneuve Says Bond Movie Is His Rocket Away From Dune

Denis Villeneuve says his upcoming James Bond film is the only thing powerful enough to pull him away from the world of Arrakis. The director told Empire he specifically took the 007 job to escape the "Dune" franchise, per Variety.
Villeneuve explained his return to direct the third and final "Dune" chapter was to ensure he wouldn't be "complacent" with the material. He then said he needed a "very powerful rocket to pull me away from Arrakis." When he was later asked to helm the next Bond movie, he agreed, feeling it was the perfect escape vehicle.
According to Variety, Villeneuve has not directed a film outside of the "Dune" series since 2021. The third film, "Dune: Part Three," is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. It will adapt Frank Herbert's "Dune Messiah" and feature the return of stars like Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya.
JoBlo also reported on the director's comments, noting the Bond film is for Amazon MGM Studios. Villeneuve was officially announced as the director of the next 007 movie in June 2025. No official casting for the new James Bond has been announced, despite rumors about the role being filled.
