Diego Luna's 'Ashes' to open GuadaLAjara Film Festival in LA

The GuadaLAjara Film Festival has locked in its full schedule, per Variety. The event will run from November 5 through 7 at various Los Angeles venues.

The festival will kick off with a screening of Diego Luna's new film "Ashes." The story centers on a young woman who relocates to Spain with her sibling to see their mother, who departed years earlier.

Closing the festival will be a 35mm presentation of Eddie Sánchez's "Mexicanamerican." The movie chronicles a Mexican couple who attain prosperity in the U.S. but see their cultural ties with their children fade.

The Centerpiece Gala will feature Ava DuVernay's Netflix documentary "14th." The film examines contemporary constitutional crises and historical patterns in America.

Executive director Ximena Urrutia said the festival is "proud to bring these films to Los Angeles," noting they tell important cultural stories. The lineup includes several premieres and will also host panels, master classes, and other events.
