Disgaea Creator Says Sony Should Scrap Consoles If It Kills Discs
Sony's plan to stop making PlayStation discs by 2028 is sparking fiery pushback from a major developer. Disgaea series creator Sohei Niikawa said the company might as well stop making PlayStation hardware entirely, per reports from GameSpot and Push Square.
Speaking at Anime Expo 2026, Niikawa argued Sony doesn't understand how much fans cherish physical games. He claimed the company hasn't considered what boxed editions mean to those who value them.
The move could also have massive financial consequences beyond fan sentiment. Analysts cited by Eurogamer warn the $7.2 billion global used game market faces potential destruction if discs disappear.
