Disney Calls Games Fundamental, Says Kingdom Hearts Is a Billion-Dollar Franchise
Disney is putting video games front and center. The company's gaming boss, Sean Shoptaw, declared games are now a "fundamental part of the broader entertainment landscape," according to a report from GameSpot.
He revealed that the House of Mouse has nine separate gaming franchises that have each generated over $1 billion at retail. One of those confirmed billion-dollar brands is Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts series, as noted by Nintendo Life.
The revelation comes just as fans are expecting a major blowout for the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 4. Disney is scheduled to host a livestreamed panel for the series at its D23 convention this weekend, per Push Square.
