Domhnall Gleeson says he was devastated by Hux's death in Rise of Skywalker
Domhnall Gleeson has shared his feelings about his Star Wars character's final moments. Speaking exclusively to /Film, the actor who played General Hux in the sequel trilogy called his on-screen death "devastating."
Gleeson told the outlet he was sad to leave the franchise. His character, who turned traitor for the Resistance, was shot and killed by General Pryde, played by Richard E. Grant, in The Rise of Skywalker.
But the actor did find a silver lining. "If you're going to die, having Richard E. Grant be the one who blasts you across a black corridor, that's pretty cool," Gleeson said, per /Film. He added that he was "happy it was Richard who did it, but I was sad to go."
The actor also revealed he didn't perform the main stunt for the death scene. A stunt performer handled the dramatic drag-back fall, which Gleeson said he was "more than happy to hand over" given their skill.
Despite his character's demise, Gleeson expressed a wish to have been in the movies more. Hux's death was described in the report as abrupt, a result of the story playing it safe under director J.J. Abrams.
