Doom studio id Software insists it has "the crew we need" after brutal Xbox cuts
The legendary studio behind Doom and Quake is reeling. A report from Eurogamer paints a devastating picture, claiming id Software was "gutted" by Microsoft's recent Xbox restructuring, leaving its standalone capabilities in doubt and killing newly revealed game ideas.
In a brief social media statement, the studio tried to project confidence, thanking supporters and insisting, "we still have the crew we need to build the games and tech we're known for."
Co-founder John Carmack, per Eurogamer, shared his thoughts on the reported "bloodbath." According to Rock Paper Shotgun, Carmack said he "can’t muster anger or outrage" but noted the layoffs would "dampen the mood of the founder reunion." He also reflected, per Eurogamer, that his past optimism about Microsoft being "a good steward of the brand" wasn't aging well.
