Dune: Part Three Eyes Franchise Record Opening After Strong Pre-Sales
According to a report from Collider, Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Three is already on track to break franchise box office records before it even opens. The outlet reports the film has generated $10 million in advance ticket sales.
This puts the sci-fi sequel on a path to potentially become the first film in the trilogy to earn over $100 million in its domestic opening weekend. For comparison, Dune: Part Two debuted to $82 million domestically in 2024.
The film is set for a major box office clash this December. It will open on the same day, December 18, as Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday, which has reportedly pulled in $35 million in pre-sales.
Collider notes that this face-off could lead to a combined opening weekend haul exceeding $400 million, potentially rivaling the biggest weekends in box office history. The report states that all three Dune films have been directed by Villeneuve, starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya.
