Dwayne Johnson and Benny Safdie's 'Lizard Music' Gets Christmas 2027 Release Date

A new hybrid film starring Dwayne Johnson is officially slated for a Christmas Day release in 2027. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that 'Lizard Music', directed by Benny Safdie, will hit theaters on December 25, 2027, through Amazon MGM Studios.
The film, which blends live-action and CGI, is based on Daniel Pinkwater's novel. Per THR, the story follows a young protagonist who stumbles upon a clandestine TV show featuring reptiles performing songs. His investigation leads him to Johnson's character, an eccentric older man known as Chicken Man, and a super-aged chicken named Claudia, as they embark on a quest to find a concealed civilization.
The cast is loaded with familiar faces. Alongside Johnson, the lineup includes Alicia Silverstone, Tim Heidecker, Regina Hall, Colman Domingo, Jeff Goldblum, and Rachel McAdams. Newcomer Theo Clark Leber, Arya Parvathi, Andrew Dice Clay, and David Krumholtz are also set to appear.
Safdie directs from his own script and produces through his Out for the Count banner. Johnson produces via Seven Bucks Productions. The project marks a reunion for the star and director after last year's A24 drama 'The Smashing Machine'.
In related holiday scheduling news, The Hollywood Reporter also notes that Johnson has another film arriving this Christmas. 'Jumanji: Open World', billed as the final chapter in the trilogy, releases on December 25 of this year. Johnson returns alongside Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan for director Jake Kasdan's sequel, where the video game characters escape into the real world.
