Ellen Burstyn Accepts Venice's Golden Lion Through Tears

Ellen Burstyn Accepts Venice's Golden Lion Through Tears

Ellen Burstyn was visibly emotional as she accepted a major honor at the Venice Film Festival.

The 93-year-old acting legend received the festival's Golden Lion award for lifetime achievement. According to Variety, actress Maggie Gyllenhaal first took the stage to explain that Burstyn had recently taken a fall but was okay.

When Burstyn herself took the podium, she became tearful. She told the audience, per Variety, that winning an Oscar, Tony, or Emmy is one thing, but that this award was something special.

The Hollywood Reporter notes Burstyn is in Venice with two films. During her acceptance, she also reflected on her career, including her groundbreaking role in 'Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore' and being "recognized" by icon Marilyn Monroe early on.
