Epic Reportedly Delays Secret Marvel/Star Wars Shooter for AI Push
Epic Games has reportedly delayed a secret shooter that will cross over characters from Marvel and Star Wars, according to a Bloomberg report cited by multiple outlets. The game was previously targeting a March 2027 release, per the report, but has now been pushed back.
The delay comes as Epic is pushing the development team to adopt an "AI first" production model. Per IGN, internal messages from a game director reportedly instructed developers that there would be "no more hand-written code" and that all art should be "generated with full AI workflows." Developers are being encouraged to use tools like Anthropic's Claude AI assistant.
Epic's communications director, Jake Jones, provided a statement to Bloomberg, saying "We're embracing AI-accelerated development, led by Epic developers who are the visionaries and creative drivers for everything we do." Kotaku reports that many developers on the project were left "stunned" by the sudden policy shift.
CEO Tim Sweeney posted on social media about a "huge pivot" at the company, stating the aim is to "enable everyone here to build MORE and BETTER stuff" through AI acceleration. The unannounced game is a collaboration with Disney, which invested $1.5 billion in Epic back in 2024.
