Everest documentary directors open up about grief and loss in new film
Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, the Oscar-winning duo behind 'Free Solo', are back with a new documentary they call their most personal yet. According to Variety, their film 'Everest: The Other Side' follows ski mountaineers Jim Morrison and Hilaree Nelson on a daring quest to ski down the treacherous North Face of the world's highest peak.
The directors spoke about the themes of grief and loss that permeate the project, stemming from a personal tragedy. Vasarhelyi told Variety, 'You don't get to choose your calling,' reflecting on the film's challenging emotional core.
'Everest: The Other Side' is currently set to screen at both the Venice and Toronto International Film Festivals. The film chronicles an attempt to achieve a feat never before accomplished.
