Ex-Rockstar producer explains why GTA 6 is a console-first affair
If you're a PC gamer still waiting for a GTA 6 release date on your platform of choice, a former Rockstar producer has some insight. According to John Ricchio, speaking to outlets including VGC and Rock Paper Shotgun, it's not about snubbing PC gamers.
Instead, it's a classic case of resource management. Starting development on consoles, which have stricter hardware limitations, makes the process easier. It's simpler to scale a game up to the open world of PC specs later than to pare it down for consoles from the start.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft is still counting its doubloons from a separate PC launch. PC Gamer reports that day one DLC for the recent Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced made under 3% of its initial Steam sales, but that still netted the publisher around $1 million.
