Fall 2: Deadpoint first look teases a terrifying new high-altitude fight
The sequel to the survival thriller Fall is heading to new heights, per Collider's exclusive first look at Fall 2: Deadpoint. Directors Peter and Michael Spierig are moving the action from a desert tower to a massive mountain in Thailand, where two climbers become trapped during a perilous ascent.
According to the directors, the core of the film remains a simple survival story. They told Collider the challenge was finding a new scenario with the same immediate danger as the original. The sequel's terrifying centerpiece is a plank walk high on the mountain, directly inspired by the notoriously dangerous Huashan Plank Walk in China. Exclusive images show a precarious wooden pathway against a sheer rock face.
The Spierig brothers said Thailand allowed them to completely change the film's visual language, making the environment feel like a character itself. They were fans of the first film and pitched several ideas, but the plank walk concept ultimately became the foundation for the story.
To capture authenticity, the film was shot in a rock quarry in Thailand using practical filmmaking with minimal blue screen. The actors, including Harriet Slater, Arsema Thomas, and Tom Brittney, performed scenes while harnessed about 40 feet in the air for extended periods. The directors encouraged them to do their own stunts where possible.
Michael Spierig noted a key difference from traditional horror filmmaking, explaining that with a height-based thriller, the danger is always visible to the audience from the start.
